They come to us to get adjusted, have their posture corrected, work out on the Power Plate, do some corrective traction and more.
How does this relate to performance?
We have had sprinters who would drift off to one side until their posture was corrected. Crooked posture involves centres of gravity of the head, shoulders, ribcage, pelvis and feet, and greatly affects balance and symmetry.
Part of our Rehab Program involves Posture Correction using CBP® Methods. Posture and athletic performance are related on many levels:
Proper posture involves symmetry. Do you have one shoulder higher than the other? Most new patients do before they start our Corrective Program. Look in the mirror: is one higher than the other?
Is your head directly over your shoulders when looking at your posture from the side? Or do you have Forward Head Posture? Patients usually tell us their spouse has told them this for years (or mums).
Forward Head Posture (FHP) results in wasted energy, since muscles have to strain constantly to hold the head out so far. Remember that your head weighs as much as a bowling ball. If you had to hold a bowling ball out at arm's length all day long, you would be quite tired and would realise very quickly the wasted energy from doing so.
New patients often have many postural abnormalities before starting our program such as:
(for example) Forward Head Posture, high left shoulder, left head tilt, right head rotation, rib cage rotation, rounded shoulders, etc.
All these postural problems add up to wasted energy, especially while performing during athletic events. Athletes are trying to trim seconds off their time, and if they have crooked or abnormal posture, they are not using their energy as efficiently as they could.
Pain. Pain stops us from performing properly. CBP® Rehab is effective at reducing or eliminating pain without drugs or surgery. Even the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association recommends Chiropractic FIRST for back pain. Watch the video here (link).
Geelong Spine Centre also has many other rehab techniques such as CBP® posture correction, Power Plate rehab, PNF stretching techniques, Mirror Image® exercises, Mirror Image® traction, Mirror Image® adjustments, Nutrition, Antioxidant I.V. Therapy, and more.
